As usual, this release has addressed a number of high priorty issues that users had reported and is the most fetaure packed version to date.

We owe a huge thanks to the strong developers and user community that have contributed countless hours on Inkscape 0.45.

This has introduced some really nice functionality-- I love the Gaussian Blur tool-- but it seems like it's become crazy buggy and crash-prone, as well as a massive memory hog. I'd submit more bug reports to the SourceForge bug report center, but I'm not exactly sure what causes these things, and a general "Things are really being wonky" note doesn't help at all.

Is this just me, or is anyone else noticing it?

One more thing... you should add the inkscape account here on DA to your watch list to get notified of future releases. We don't tend to submit news stories for the bugfix releases. :)

We will be releasing 0.45.1 to fix a number of known bugs. Can you give any indication as to what in particular is buggy? Can you reproduce crashes?

We're hoping to have some memory usage reductions in 0.46 (if all goes as planned), but that's probably 6 months or so off. We already have some great new features added to it too. :)

Interesting. I've never seen that package manager before but I tried it and it did the trick. Thanks! I just hope it doesn't run into problems on down the line with conflicts with my primary package manager.

If you update your distro in a couple months (such as if you're an Ubuntu or Fedora user), 0.45 should be included at that point.

Inkscape rocks! I started off as a user, and became a developer. There is some really great new stuff in this version.

As usual, if you've never done vector graphics or even if you're an Illustrator, Corel, or Freehand user, we recommend you give it a shot. It's free, what do you have to lose? :)
